My premium amp KT88 SIPP
« on: March 28, 2010, 08:33:54 AM »
Hi everybody,

this is the best amplifier I ever build or heard. I build it with friendly permission from Bruce Heran, using his OddBlock schematic. Bruce's OddBlock amp are mono blocks, mine is a full stereo amp with a few extra bells and whistles, other than that I stuck to schematic recommendation. I learned to not argue with success, and this amplifier is very successful, I had it playing against the old and new Audionote in two different audiophile store here in the Netherlands, and mine always wins in all points, the owners of the Audionotes agreed. You just hear more detail and music using my amp, it is soooo fast for a tube amp and still very warm and clear, it sounds just wonderful, unbelievable. The same test was done by some electronics company in Arizona as well, a company that will sell Bruce's mono blocks as kit amps among some other stuff Bruce is currently designing for them. Anyway, the outcome of the test was the same, the OddBlocks win in all points. I am very proud to own such an amplifier and I want to thank Bruce for making that possible for all of us, on this occasion.

Great workmanship on that amp! The Odd-Watt amps show a nice, clean design, and they very transparent sounding.

I have a twisted idea: since an 813 can be driven by an srpp, what about an SIPP 813 amp? I figure about 40 Watts of pure Class A fun in triode mode and double that in UL. The LM317HV in the CCS would have to be replaced. I suspect that the CCS would have to withstand more than 57 volts. With 5A filament draw per tube, monoblocks are the only sane way to proceed.   ;)

Hallo everybody,

I am a true fan of the SIPP system, only one interstage cap and only one tube is driven, that all is very good, plus I tried that with a lot of different tubes, they all work, even though they don't all work as good. Some tubes don't like to have the grid to ground, don't know why. Those tubes don't stay balanced in this circuit. Well, most tubes do work.

Kind regards from Holland

Very nice!!!  I'm working on something very similar based on the circuit Bruce came up with.

Congrats on a nice build.  I wish I could hear it!!!  Maybe in another month I'll have mine finished. :)
