6P45S alias EL509 amplifier with SIPP pre stage.
« on: April 24, 2010, 10:27:07 PM »
Hallo everybody,

I put a 6P45S amp for a friend together, promised him 10 watt, and he got it. It sounds very nice in UL mode. I use a sipp pre stage, not really my idea, but much rather from Bruce Heran, the Papa from OddWatt (thanks Bruce) My voltages are right on the money, I got 390 volts B+ and 215 on the pre stage and 70 volts heater bias. The pre tube filaments are heated by rectified and voltage controlled DC, the whole amp is very quiet. Here are some pics.

Hi Ben,

Has your customer listened to it yet? And did he like it?

Kind regards,
Bas

Hi Bas,

yes the guy just called and thanked me. He is very happy, this amp does exceed expectation in all points, god I am happy, too. This was the first se amp with more than 10 watts power I build, so for me kind of challenging, but it all worked out beautifully. My pre stage does drive the power tubes with ease to full power and even overdrive them. I exchanged the ECC83 against 5751 from Sovtek, almost as much gain, but much better sonics. This amp rocks, if you have some of those tubes at home, go ahead.
