My best SE amp
« on: May 29, 2010, 06:07:34 PM »
Hallo everybody,

I wanted a real tube amplifier without any solid state parts, so I build one. It implies 2 tubes ECL86, those are pentodes and high gain triodes in one envelope and I use a EZ81 as a rectifier tube. All AC heated, to avoid the use of diodes. It turned out alright, I got the PSU on a little PC board, home made of course and the rest is wired in silver. It is virtually noise free, it's got a 4 ohm 8 ohm switch as well as a triode pentode switch. In pentode mode it will produce about 4 watts per channel before audible distortion. Here are some pics.

This little amplifier does sound really good, it is in every day use, connected to my TV, so whenever the TV runs, the amp runs, too. It is really my spouse amplifier, since she does most of the TV watching, haha. :)

All the best from Holland

Hi Ben,

Thanks for the pics and report.

Looking at your build I'm itching to build something again. Would like to do something similar. Got some 6EW7 lying about....

Kind regards,
Bas
